1. परिचय
(Introduction):-

सामान्य नाम:- ईसबगोल, psyllium husk
(Common Name:- Isabgol, psyllium husk)

यह 2 पर्सियन शब्दों के मिलने से बना है:-
(It is formed by the combination of 2 Persian words:-)

= horse (घोड़ा)
ghol
= ear (बाली)

वानस्पतिक नाम:- Plantago ovata
(Botanical Name:- Plantago ovata)

(Family:- Plantaginaceae)

2. पुष्पीय
बायोलॉजी (Floral
Biology):-

ईसबगोल एक वार्षिक फसल है। इसकी पादप ऊंचाई
30 - 45 cm होती है। प्रति पौधा 12 - 26 तक टिलर्स होते हैं।
(Isabgol is an annual crop. Its plant height is 30 - 45 cm. There are 12 - 26 tillers per plant.)

ईसबगोल में शीर्षस्थ स्पाइक पुष्पक्रम
होता है। परिपक्व
होने पर स्पाइक
लाल – भूरे रंग की हो जाती है।
(Isabgol has terminal spike inflorescence. The spike turns reddish-brown when mature.)

स्पाइक में केंद्रीय अक्ष पर स्पाइकिकायें लगी रहती हैं।
(In spike, the spikelets are found on the central axis.)

प्रत्येक स्पाइकिका
में 1 द्विलिंगी व त्रिज्यातसममित पुष्प होता है।
(Each spikelet has 1 bisexual and actinomorphic flower.)
·
प्रत्येक पुष्प में सफेद रंग के 4 बाह्यदल होते हैं जो एक दूसरे से स्वतंत्र रहते हैं।
(Each flower has 4 white sepals which are free from each other.)
·
प्रत्येक पुष्प में सफेद रंग के 4 स्वतंत्र दल होते हैं।
(Each flower has 4 free white petals.)
·
प्रत्येक पुष्प में 4 स्वतंत्र पुंकेसर होते हैं।
(Each flower has 4 free stamens.)
·
प्रत्येक पुष्प में 2 संयुक्त अण्डप होते हैं जिसमें बीजाण्ड स्तंभीय बीजाण्डन्यास में पाये जाते हैं।
(Each flower has 2 fused carpels in which ovules are found in axile placentation.)

परागण (Pollination):- प्राकृतिक रूप से ईसबगोल एक परपरागित फसल है। इसमें परागण हवा द्वारा कराया जाता है। निम्न कारक परपरागण को बढ़ावा देते हैं:-
(Naturally, Isabgol is a cross-pollinated crop. In this, pollination is done by wind. The following factors promote cross pollination:-)
i. Protogyny
ii. Versatile adnation of anthers
iii. Extended surface of the plumose stigma
iv. Abundance of dry
v. Smooth-walled pollen
vi. Self-incompatibility.

फल (Fruit):- कैप्सूल (Capsule)
इसके बीज नाव के समान आकृति के होते हैं।
(Its seeds are boat shaped.)
3. प्रजनन
उद्देश्य (Breeding
Objective):-
a. Increase in the seed size and yield:-
Husk:- यह एक पारदर्शी झिल्ली होती है जो बीज को घेरे रहती है। इसमें 30% Mucilage
होता है जिसके निम्न तीन घटक होते हैं –
(It is a transparent membrane that surrounds the seed. It contains 30% Mucilage which has the following three components –)
i. Xylose
ii. Arabinose
iii. Galacturonic acid
नोट (Note):- Husk की Shelf life
6 महीने होती है।
(The shelf life of Husk is 6 months.)
Shelf life:- यह उस समय की लंबाई है जब किसी वस्तु को उपयोग, उपभोग या बिक्री के लिए अनुपयुक्त हुए बिना संग्रहित किया जा सकता है।
(It is the length of time that a commodity may be stored without becoming unfit for use, consumption, or sale.)
नोट (Note):- Husk एक Anti – diarrheal
drug है।
(Husk is an anti-diarrheal drug.)

e. Seeds with higher swelling factor
f. Genotypes resistant to drought and frost
g. रोग रोधिता (Disease

4. प्रजनन
विधियाँ (Breeding
methods):-

ईसबगोल एक परपरागित फसल है। इसलिए परपरागित फसलों
में उपयोग की जाने वाली सभी प्रजनन विधियों का उपयोग इसके सुधार
के लिए किया जाता है।
(Isabgol is a cross pollinated crop. Therefore all the breeding methods used in cross-pollinated crops can be used for its improvement.)
