Lecture-18 Seed Drying: Principles and Methods
बीज सुखाई (Seed Drying):-
1. परिचय (Introduction):-
· परिभाषा (Definition):- बीज सतह से नमी के वाष्पीकरण की प्रक्रिया को बीज सुखाई कहते हैं। बीज के अन्दर उपस्थित नमी धीरे – धीरे बीज की सतह पर आ जाती है।
(The process of evaporation of moisture from the seed surface is called seed drying. The moisture present in the seed gradually comes to the surface of the seed.)
· क्योंकि अधिक नम बीजों को अधिक तापमान पर सुखाने से उनके जलने व नष्ट होने का भय रहता है इसलिए सुखाई तापमान व बीज नमी के बीच ऋणात्मक सम्बंध होता है।
(Because drying of more moist seeds at high temperature may cause fear of their burning and destruction, therefore there is a negative correlation between the drying temperature and seed moisture.)
2. नमी की मात्रा (Moisture Content):- बीज नमी की उपयुक्त मात्रा भंडारण के प्रकार, भंडारण के समय व फसल के प्रकार पर निर्भर करती है। इस प्रकार विभिन्न फसलों के बीजों में बीज भंडारण के लिए उपयुक्त नमी प्रतिशत भिन्न – भिन्न होता है।
(The appropriate amount of seed moisture depends on the type of storage, the time of storage and the type of crop. Thus the appropriate moisture percentage for storing seeds varies in different crops.)
3. बीज सुखाई का सिद्धान्त (Principle of Seed Drying):-
· बीज सुखाई बीज व वायु के वाष्पदाब पर निर्भर करती है।
(Seed drying depends on the vapour pressure of seeds and air.)
Ø बीज सुखाई हो इसके लिए आवश्यक है कि बीज का वाष्पदाब वायुमंडलीय वाष्पदाब से अधिक हो।
(For seed drying, it is necessary that the vapour pressure of the seed is greater than the atmospheric vapour pressure.)
· जिस प्रकार ऊष्मा देने से द्रव का वाष्पदाब बढ़ता है उसी प्रकार ऊष्मा देने पर बीज का वाष्पदाब बढ़ता है।
(Just as heat increases the vapour pressure of liquid, similarly, the vapour pressure of the seeds increases when heat is given.)
· बीज की बाह्य सतह पर उपस्थित नमी का आसानी से वाष्पीकरण हो जाता है। जबकि बीज की आंतरिक नमी का वाष्पीकरण कठिन होता है क्योंकि सबसे पहले इस नमी को सतह पर लाया जाता है और फिर इसका वाष्पीकरण होता है। आंतरिक नमी को बीज की सतह पर लाने के लिए दाब व ताप का उपयोग किया जाता है।
(The moisture present on the outer surface of the seed evaporates easily. While the internal moisture of the seed is difficult to evaporate, it is first brought to the surface and then evaporated. Pressure and heat are used to bring internal moisture to the surface of the seed.)
4. बीज सुखाई के प्रकार (Types of Seed Drying):- बीजों की सुखाई 2 प्रकार से की जा सकती है –
(Drying of seeds can be done in two ways -)
a. प्राकृतिक सुखाई (Natural Drying):- यह आगे 2 प्रकार की होती है –
(This is further of 2 types -)
i. Forced Natural Air Drying:-
Ø सामान्य गोदामों में स्वतंत्र वायु प्रवाह के लिए खिड़कियाँ रखी जाती है।
(Common warehouses have ventilators for free air flow.)
Ø आधुनिक गोदामों में वायु को तेज गति से प्रवाहित करने के लिए विधुत पंखों का उपयोग किया जाता है।
(In modern warehouses, electric fins are used to make air flow faster.)
ii. Forced Heated Air Drying:-
Ø इस विधि में बर्नर हीटर की सहायता से बाहरी वायु को गर्म किया जाता है तथा फिर इसे गोदाम में प्रवाहित किया जाता है।
(In this method, the external air is heated with the help of a burner heater and it is then flowed into the warehouse.)
Ø इस सिद्धान्त का उपयोग अनेक प्रकार के आधुनिक सुखाई यंत्रों में किया जाता है।
(This principle is used in many types of modern drying machines.)
b. यांत्रिक सुखाई (Mechanical Drying):- इसे कृत्रिम सुखाई भी कहते हैं।
(It is also called artificial drying.)
Ø इसमें गर्म या सामान्य वायु को तीव्र गति से बीज सुखाई यंत्र में भेजा जाता है।
(In this, hot or normal air is sent to the seed drying machine at a rapid speed.)
Ø लाभ (Benefits):-
i. तुरन्त सुखाई (Quick Drying)
ii. बड़ी मात्रा में सुखाई (Large quantity drying)
iii. उपयोग में उपकरण (Equipment used):- Seed Dryers (बीज सुखाई यंत्र)
Ø विभिन्न प्रकार के बीज सुखाई यंत्र (Different types of Seed Dryers):-
i. Batch Bin Dryer (Metal Bin Dryer):- इसकी बॉडी धातु की बनी होती है। इसमें एक बार में बीज की निश्चित मात्रा को ही सुखाया जा सकता है।
(Its body is made up of metal. Only a fixed amount of seed can be dried in this dryer.)
ii. Continuous Flow Dryer:- इसमें बीज की बड़ी मात्रा को सुखाया जा सकता है। यह बिना रुके लगातार काम कर सकता है।
(Large amounts of seeds can be dried in this dryer. It can work continuously without stopping.)
