Soil Profile (मृदा प्रोफाइल):- It is a vertical cross-section of layers of soil found in a given area.
(यह किसी दिए गए क्षेत्र में पाई जाने वाली मृदा की परतों का एक ऊर्ध्वाधर अनुप्रस्थ काट है।)

1. O-Horizon (The “Organic Matter”) [O-होरीजन ("जैविक पदार्थ")]:-
> Surface-layer, at depths of 0-2 feet.
(सतह-परत, 0-2 फीट की गहराई पर।)
> Dark in color, soft in texture.
(रंग में गहरा, बनावट में नरम।)
> Humus (ह्यूमस):- Rich organic material of plant and animal origin in a stage of decomposition.
(अपघटन के चरण में पौधे और जन्तु उत्पत्ति की समृद्ध जैविक सामग्री।)
> Leaf litter (पर्ण लिटर):- Leaves, needles, twigs, moss, lichens that are not decomposing.
(पत्तियाँ, सुईयाँ, टहनियाँ, मौस, लाइकेन जो विघटित नहीं हो रहे हैं।)
> Several O-layers can occur in some soils, consisting only of O- horizons.
(कुछ मृदाओं में कई O-परतें हो सकती हैं, जिनमें केवल O-होरीजन शामिल होते हैं।)
