International strategy for disaster reduction (आपदा न्यूनीकरण के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रणनीति):- The International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) is a comprehensive framework established by the United Nations (UN) to guide global efforts in reducing the risks and impacts of natural and man-made disasters. It was initiated to build resilience among communities, nations, and regions to withstand and recover from disasters. 

[आपदा न्यूनीकरण के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रणनीति (ISDR) संयुक्त राष्ट्र (UN) द्वारा स्थापित एक व्यापक ढांचा है, जिसका उद्देश्य प्राकृतिक और मानव निर्मित आपदाओं के जोखिमों और प्रभावों को कम करने के लिए वैश्विक प्रयासों का मार्गदर्शन करना है। इसे समुदायों, राष्ट्रों और क्षेत्रों को आपदाओं का सामना करने और उनसे उबरने की क्षमता बनाने के लिए शुरू किया गया था।]

i. Background and Evolution (पृष्ठभूमि और विकास):-

Origin (उत्पत्ति):- The ISDR was launched in 1999 by the UN General Assembly as a continuation and expansion of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) that ran from 1990 to 1999.

[ISDR को 1999 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा प्राकृतिक आपदा न्यूनीकरण के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दशक (IDNDR) का विस्तार करते हुए शुरू किया गया था, जो 1990 से 1999 तक चला।]

Purpose (उद्देश्य):- It aimed to shift the focus from solely responding to disasters to proactively reducing disaster risks through preparedness, mitigation, and resilience-building efforts.

(इसका उद्देश्य केवल आपदाओं के प्रति प्रतिक्रिया देने के बजाय आपदा जोखिम को कम करने के लिए पूर्व-तैयारी, शमन और क्षमता निर्माण के प्रयासों के माध्यम से सक्रिय रूप से कार्य करना था।)
