Origin (उत्पत्ति):- Sweet potatoes are native to Central and South America. They were cultivated by indigenous peoples long before European explorers arrived. They were introduced to India by Portuguese traders in the 16th century.

(शकरकंद की उत्पत्ति मध्य और दक्षिण अमेरिका में हुई थी। यह भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में 16वीं सदी में पुर्तगाली व्यापारियों द्वारा लाया गया था।)
