Order (गण):- Lepidoptera (लेपिडोप्टेरा)
Family (कुल):- Noctuidae (नॉक्टुइडी)

Distribution (वितरण):- Tobacco caterpillar is a widely distributed pest in tropical and subtropical regions. In India, it is common in almost all tobacco-growing regions, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Its occurrence is also noted in cotton, pulses, and vegetable crops.
(तम्बाकू कैटरपिल्लर उष्णकटिबंधीय और उपोष्णकटिबंधीय क्षेत्रों में व्यापक रूप से फैला हुआ कीट पीड़क है। भारत में, यह लगभग सभी तम्बाकू उगाने वाले क्षेत्रों में पाया जाता है, विशेषकर आंध्र प्रदेश, कर्नाटक और तमिलनाडु में। इसका हमला कपास, दालों और सब्जी की फसलों पर भी देखा जाता है।)

Identification (पहचान):-
Eggs (अंडे):- The eggs are spherical, creamy-yellow, and laid in clusters on the underside of leaves, often covered with a layer of hair-like scales from the female moth.
(अंडे गोलाकार, क्रीम रंग के और समूहों में पत्तियों की निचली सतह पर रखे जाते हैं, जो मादा पतंगे के रोम समान पपड़ी से ढके होते हैं।)
Larvae (Caterpillar) [लार्वा (कैटरपिल्लर)]:- The larvae are initially greenish but become brown or black with age, marked with black spots and pale stripes. They grow to around 4-5 cm in length and have a velvety texture.
(प्रारंभिक अवस्था में कैटरपिल्लर हरे रंग का होता है, लेकिन बाद में भूरे या काले रंग का हो जाता है, जिन पर काले धब्बे और हल्की धारियां होती हैं। इसकी लंबाई लगभग 4-5 सेमी होती है और इसकी बनावट मखमली होता है।)
Pupae (प्यूपा):- The pupation occurs in the soil, where the larvae transform into reddish-brown pupae.
(प्यूपा मृदा में बनते है, जहां लार्वा लाल-भूरे प्यूपा में बदलते हैं।)
Adults (वयस्क):- The adult moths are stout-bodied with a wingspan of 30-38 mm. The forewings are brownish with wavy markings, while the hindwings are pale white with dark margins.
(वयस्क पतंगे मजबूत शरीर वाले होते हैं और इनके पंखों का फैलाव 30-38 मिमी होता है। अग्रपंख भूरे होते हैं जिन पर लहरदार निशान होते हैं, जबकि पिछले पंख हल्के सफेद रंग के होते हैं जिनके किनारों पर काले रंग की सीमाएं होती हैं।)
