Global positioning system (GPS), components and its functions:- The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system that provides accurate location and time information globally. Initially developed by the United States Department of Defense, it has become widely used for civilian purposes, from navigation in smartphones and vehicles to tracking systems and geospatial services.

Components of GPS (GPS के घटक):- The GPS consists of three major components:

i. Space Segment (Satellites) [स्पेस सेगमेंट (उपग्रह)]:-

> This segment includes a constellation of GPS satellites orbiting the Earth at an altitude of about 20,200 km.

(इस सेगमेंट में पृथ्वी की कक्षा में लगभग 20,200 किमी की ऊंचाई पर घूमने वाले GPS उपग्रहों का एक समूह शामिल होता है।)

> Typically, 24 to 31 satellites are active at any time, ensuring that at least four satellites are visible from any point on Earth.

(आम तौर पर, 24 से 31 उपग्रह सक्रिय होते हैं, जो सुनिश्चित करते हैं कि पृथ्वी के किसी भी बिंदु से कम से कम चार उपग्रह दिखाई दें।)

> These satellites transmit signals containing their precise location and the time of transmission, which are crucial for determining the user's position.
