In India, weeds are a significant issue in agriculture and environmental management due to their ability to reduce crop yields, affect the quality of produce, and alter ecosystems.

Definition and Characteristics of Weeds (खरपतवार की परिभाषा और विशेषताएं):-

Definition (परिभाषा):- Weeds are plants that are not intentionally sown and grow where they are not desired. They can interfere with the growth of cultivated crops or desired vegetation.

(खरपतवार वे पौधे हैं जिन्हें जानबूझकर नहीं बोया गया और ये उन स्थानों पर उगते हैं जहाँ इन्हें नहीं चाहिए। ये उगने वाली फसलों या वांछित वनस्पति के विकास में बाधा डाल सकते हैं।)

Characteristics (विशेषताएं):-

> High adaptability and rapid growth.

(उच्च अनुकूलन क्षमता और तेजी से वृद्धि की क्षमता।)

> Produce a large number of seeds, often with efficient dispersal mechanisms like wind, water, animals, or humans.

(बड़ी संख्या में बीजों का उत्पादन, जिनके फैलाव के लिए हवा, पानी, जंतुओं या मनुष्यों का सहारा लिया जाता है।)

> Ability to survive in adverse conditions (e.g., poor soils, drought, or flooding).

[प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियों (जैसे कि खराब मिट्टी, सूखा, या बाढ़) में जीवित रहने की क्षमता।]

> Often have allelopathic properties, which means they can release chemicals that inhibit the growth of surrounding plants.

(अक्सर इनमें एलिलोपैथिक गुण होते हैं, अर्थात ये ऐसे रसायन छोड़ सकते हैं जो आसपास के पौधों की वृद्धि को रोकते हैं।)
