Meaning (अर्थ):-
> Social change refers to an alteration in the social structure of a social group or society which, according to, International Encyclopaedia of Social Science (IESS. 1972), are the change in the nature, social institutions, social behaviours or social relations of a society.
[सामाजिक परिवर्तन से तात्पर्य किसी सामाजिक समूह या समाज की सामाजिक संरचना में परिवर्तन से है, जो इंटरनेशनल इनसाइक्लोपीडिया ऑफ सोशल साइंस (IESS. 1972) के अनुसार, किसी समाज की प्रकृति, सामाजिक संस्थाओं, सामाजिक व्यवहार या सामाजिक संबंधों में परिवर्तन है।]
> The alteration may occur in norms, values, cultural products and symbols in a society. This alteration in the structure and function of a social system, institutions and patterns of interaction, work, leisure activities, roles and other aspects of society can be altered over the time as a result of the process of social change.
(किसी समाज में मानदंडों, मूल्यों, सांस्कृतिक उत्पादों और प्रतीकों में परिवर्तन हो सकता है। सामाजिक व्यवस्था की संरचना और कार्य, संस्थानों और बातचीत के पैटर्न, कार्य, अवकाश गतिविधियों, भूमिकाओं और समाज के अन्य पहलुओं में यह परिवर्तन समय के साथ सामाजिक परिवर्तन की प्रक्रिया के परिणामस्वरूप बदला जा सकता है।)

Definitions (परिभाषाएँ):- 
i. Kingsley Davis:- By Social change is meant only such alterations as occur in social organizations, that is, structure and functions of society.
(सामाजिक परिवर्तन से तात्पर्य केवल ऐसे परिवर्तनों से है जो सामाजिक संगठनों, अर्थात् समाज की संरचना और कार्यों में होते हैं।)
ii. Maclver and Page:- Social change refers to a process responsive to many types of changes, to changes in man-made conditions of life, to changes in the attitude and beliefs of men and to changes that go beyond the human control to the biological and physical nature of things.
(सामाजिक परिवर्तन एक ऐसी प्रक्रिया को संदर्भित करता है जो कई प्रकार के परिवर्तनों, जीवन की मानव निर्मित स्थितियों में परिवर्तन, पुरुषों के दृष्टिकोण और विश्वासों में परिवर्तन और उन परिवर्तनों के प्रति उत्तरदायी होती है जो मानव नियंत्रण से परे चीजों की जैविक और भौतिक प्रकृति में होते हैं।)
