Social Institution (सामाजिक संस्था):-
Meaning (अर्थ):-
> Social institutions have been created by man from social relationships in society to meet such basic needs as stability, law and order and clearly defined roles of authority and decision making.
(सामाजिक संस्थाएँ मनुष्य द्वारा समाज में स्थिरता, कानून और व्यवस्था और अधिकार और निर्णय लेने की स्पष्ट रूप से परिभाषित भूमिकाओं जैसी बुनियादी जरूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए सामाजिक संबंधों से बनाई गई हैं।)
> Every organisation is dependent upon certain recognised and established set of rules, traditions and usages. These usages and rules may be given the name of institutions. These are the forms of procedure which are recognised and accepted by society and govern the relations between individuals and groups.
(प्रत्येक संगठन कुछ मान्यता प्राप्त और स्थापित नियमों, परंपराओं और रीतियों पर निर्भर होता है। इन रीतियों एवं नियमों को संस्थाओं का नाम दिया जा सकता है। ये प्रक्रिया के वे रूप हैं जो समाज द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त और स्वीकृत हैं और व्यक्तियों और समूहों के बीच संबंधों को नियंत्रित करते हैं।)

Definitions (परिभाषाएँ):-
i. Wood ward and Maxwell:- An institution is a set of folkways and mores into a unit which serves a number of social functions.
(एक संस्था एक इकाई में लोक रीतियों और रीति-रिवाजों का एक समूह है जो कई सामाजिक कार्य करती है।)
ii. Horton:- An institution is an organized system of social relationships which embodies certain common values and procedures and meets certain basic needs of society.
(एक संस्था सामाजिक संबंधों की एक संगठित प्रणाली है जो कुछ सामान्य मूल्यों और प्रक्रियाओं का प्रतीक है और समाज की कुछ बुनियादी जरूरतों को पूरा करती है।)
iii. Landis:- Social institutions are formal cultural structures devised to meet basic social needs. 
(सामाजिक संस्थाएँ बुनियादी सामाजिक आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए तैयार की गई औपचारिक सांस्कृतिक संरचनाएँ हैं।)
