The practice of M&E is integral to assessing the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of various projects funded by both the government and international donors.

i. Definition of Monitoring and Evaluation (निगरानी और मूल्यांकन की परिभाषा):-
Monitoring (निगरानी):- It is the ongoing process of collecting data and tracking the progress of a project. It is about ensuring that project activities are being implemented as planned.
(डेटा एकत्र करने और परियोजना की प्रगति को ट्रैक करने की निरंतर प्रक्रिया है। इसका उद्देश्य यह सुनिश्चित करना है कि परियोजना की गतिविधियाँ योजना के अनुसार कार्यान्वित हो रही हैं।)
Evaluation (मूल्यांकन):- It is the systematic assessment of the project or program’s design, implementation, and outcomes. It helps in understanding whether the project achieved its objectives and provides insights for future improvements.

ii. Importance of M&E in India (भारत में M&E का महत्व):-
Accountability (जवाबदेही):- M&E helps ensure that project funds are being used effectively and transparently.
