Types of traditional and modern farming systems (पारंपरिक और आधुनिक कृषि प्रणालियों के प्रकार):-
Traditional Farming Systems (परंपरागत कृषि प्रणालियाँ):- Traditional farming systems in India are characterized by low-input, indigenous methods that often rely on age-old practices passed down through generations. These methods are generally sustainable and less dependent on external inputs.
(भारत में परंपरागत कृषि प्रणालियाँ निम्न इनपुट वाली और स्थानीय परंपराओं पर आधारित होती हैं, जिन्हें पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी अपनाया गया है। ये तरीके आमतौर पर टिकाऊ होते हैं और बाहरी संसाधनों पर कम निर्भर होते हैं।)
i. Subsistence Farming (आत्मनिर्भर खेती):-
Characteristics (विशेषताएं):- Farmers grow crops primarily for their own consumption rather than for sale in the market.
(किसान मुख्य रूप से अपनी खपत के लिए फसल उगाते हैं, न कि बाजार में बेचने के लिए।)
Crops Grown (उगाई जाने वाली फसलें):- Basic staples such as rice, wheat, millets, and pulses.
(चावल, गेहूं, ज्वार, बाजरा, और दालें।)
Practices (प्रथाएं):- Minimal use of technology or chemicals; largely rain-fed, with limited irrigation.
(कम तकनीक और रसायनों का उपयोग; मुख्य रूप से वर्षा पर निर्भर और सीमित सिंचाई।)
Benefits (लाभ):- Ensures food security for farming families, relies on local resources.
(किसानों के लिए खाद्य सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करती है और स्थानीय संसाधनों पर निर्भर होती है।)
Challenges (चुनौतियां):- Yields are generally low, making it difficult for farmers to earn surplus income.
(उत्पादन कम होता है, जिससे किसानों को अतिरिक्त आय कमाना मुश्किल हो जाता है।)

ii. Shifting Cultivation (Jhum) [झूम खेती (शिफ्टिंग कल्टीवेशन)]:-
Characteristics (विशेषताएं):- Also known as “slash and burn” agriculture, practiced mostly by tribal communities in hilly regions.
(इसे “स्लैश एंड बर्न” कृषि के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, विशेषकर जनजातीय समुदायों द्वारा पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में की जाती है।)
Regions (क्षेत्र):- Northeastern states such as Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
(पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों जैसे नागालैंड, मेघालय, मिजोरम, और ओडिशा तथा आंध्र प्रदेश के कुछ हिस्से।)
