Concept of Low Tunnels (लो टनल की संकल्पना):- Low tunnels are temporary, small-scale protective structures used in agriculture to extend the growing season, protect crops from adverse weather, and enhance plant growth. These tunnels are constructed using plastic film or other covering materials supported by hoops, creating a microclimate that moderates temperature, humidity, and wind exposure.

Construction of Low Tunnels (लो टनल का निर्माण):-

Materials Required (आवश्यक सामग्री):-

Hoops/Frames (हूप्स/फ्रेम):- Made of PVC pipes, bamboo, galvanized metal, or flexible polyethylene rods.

(पीवीसी पाइप, बांस, जस्ती धातु, या लचीली पॉलीइथाइलीन छड़ें।)

Covering Material (आवरण सामग्री):- Transparent polyethylene plastic film, non-woven fabric, or insect netting.

(पारदर्शी पॉलीथीन प्लास्टिक फिल्म, गैर-बुने हुए कपड़े (नॉन-वोवन फैब्रिक) या कीट जाल।)

Anchors (खूंटियां)):- Stakes or pegs to secure the tunnel structure.

(टनल को मजबूती से पकड़ने के लिए लकड़ी या लोहे के खूंटे।)

Clips or Fasteners (क्लिप या फास्टनर):- To attach the plastic to the frames and ensure stability.

(प्लास्टिक को फ्रेम से जोड़ने और स्थिरता बनाए रखने के लिए।)

Step-by-Step Construction (निर्माण की चरणबद्ध प्रक्रिया):-

i. Site Selection & Preparation (स्थान का चयन और तैयारी):-

> Choose a well-drained, level field with good sunlight exposure.

(अच्छी धूप और जल निकासी वाली समतल भूमि का चयन करें।)

> Clear weeds and debris and prepare the soil for planting.

(खरपतवार और मलबा हटाकर मिट्टी को खेती के लिए तैयार करें।)

ii. Marking the Rows (पंक्तियों का चिह्नांकन):-

> Decide the row width, typically 1.0 to 1.5 meters wide and 30-50 cm high.

(पंक्तियों की चौड़ाई 1.0 से 1.5 मीटर और ऊँचाई 30-50 सेमी रखें।)

> Mark row lines where the tunnel hoops will be installed.

(उन लाइनों को चिह्नित करें जहाँ हूप्स लगाए जाएंगे।)

iii. Installing the Hoops (हूप्स लगाना):-

> Insert PVC or metal hoops into the ground at every 1–1.5 meters along the row.

(पीवीसी या धातु के हूप्स को जमीन में 1-1.5 मीटर की दूरी पर गाड़ें।)

> Ensure the hoops are evenly spaced and firmly anchored.

(सुनिश्चित करें कि सभी हूप्स समान रूप से व्यवस्थित और मजबूती से लगे हों।)

iv. Attaching the Covering (आवरण को जोड़ना):-

> Drape polyethylene film or non-woven fabric over the hoops.

(हूप्स के ऊपर पॉलीथीन शीट या नॉन-वोवन फैब्रिक बिछाएं।)

> Secure the edges with soil, clips, or sandbags to prevent it from being blown away.

(किनारों को मिट्टी, क्लिप या बालू की बोरियों से दबाकर सुरक्षित करें, ताकि यह हवा से उड़ न जाए।)

> Ensure ventilation by leaving gaps or using roll-up sides during warm days.

v. Monitoring & Maintenance (निगरानी और रखरखाव):-

> Regularly check for tears or damage in the plastic.

> Adjust the tunnel for ventilation and temperature control to prevent overheating.

(तापमान और आर्द्रता को नियंत्रित करने के लिए टनल को समायोजित करें, ताकि अत्यधिक गर्मी से बचा जा सके।)

> Water and fertilize crops as per requirement.

(आवश्यकतानुसार सिंचाई और उर्वरक का उपयोग करें।)

Crops Suitable for Low Tunnels (लो टनल के लिए उपयुक्त फसलें):-

Vegetables (सब्जियाँ):- Lettuce, spinach, carrots, radishes, onions, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes.

(पालक, गाजर, मूली, प्याज, पत्ता गोभी, फूलगोभी, टमाटर।)

Fruits (फल):- Strawberries, melons.

Flowers (फूल):- Marigolds, petunias, and pansies for early blooming.
